Vettignè Castle

Santhià, Italy

The Castle of Vettignè is a medieval building in the Vercelli area, located in the hamlet of the same name in Santhià. Since the 1960s, following the depopulation of Vettignè, the castle has fallen into a nearly complete state of abandonment.

The castle entrance The castle was long owned by the noble Vialardi di Verrone family, later by the Dal Pozzo family, and eventually passed to the Savoy-Aosta branch through the marriage of Maria Vittoria Carlotta — the last heir of the Princes of Cisterna — to Prince Amedeo, Duke of Aosta and former King of Spain.

The main fortified structure, possibly built over older foundations, dates to the 15th century. It is fully encircled by swallowtail battlements supported by long corbels with a decorative band. The tall cylindrical tower closely resembles that of San Genuario Castle in Crescentino.

Between the 16th and 17th centuries, additional buildings such as homes, storage areas, and a manor house were constructed, enclosing the central courtyard.
