It is a very nice historic hotel, in a quiet and a good location and with a beautiful view outside.

Very lovely place in a wonderful area of Germany. With Zittauer Gebirge close by, especially suitable if you’re after spending your days hiking and/or climbing. They’re still in the process of refurbishing (some) of the rooms which shows here and there, but at least in our room it was visible only because of some plastic boxes on the wall securing cables where lamps are going to be and the overall style and materials suggest that they’re onto the right path. A matter of taste of course. The only small gripe I have is that the staff was not able to provide us with a nutritionally diverse vegan breakfast option despite mentioning it already during reservation. From the second breakfast on we had some vegan salami and cheese, but nothing beyond just that even though in times of the internet it’s extremely easy to explore some other options. We ended up bringing our own food for breakfast which is of course quite awkward and not exactly the aim of making a booking with breakfast.

Nice, quiet historic hotel. Room is ok, size is good and has everything needed, but bed is too soft and carpet should better be replace with a more hygienic synthetic floor. Breakfast is good but dinner or choices in the restaurant in the evenings are limited only to 2 dishes.

Beautifully located, well- maintained hotel with excellent customer service. Very clean rooms, nice breakfasts with a splendid view of the pond and garden. The only thing we missed during our stay was good quality freshly ground coffee for breakfast. Think about it because it does make a big difference in nice hotels:)

Visby Cathedral

Visby Cathedral (also known as St. Mary’s Church) is the only survived medieval church in Visby. It was originally built for German merchants and inaugurated in 1225. Around the year 1350 the church was enlarged and converted into a basilica. The two-storey magazine was also added then above the nave as a warehouse for merchants.

Following the Reformation, the church was transformed into a parish church for the town of Visby. All other churches were abandoned. Shortly after the Reformation, in 1572, Gotland was made into its own Diocese, and the church designated its cathedral.

There is not much left of the original interior. The font is made of local red marble in the 13th century. The pulpit was made in Lübeck in 1684. There are 400 graves under the church floor.
