Moringen Castle
Description
Burg Moringen in Lower Saxony, Germany, was originally built in the 12th century as a lowland castle. It was first mentioned in 1157 and shared by the Lords of Rosdorf and the County of Dassel before being taken over by the Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg. Over time, the castle became a central administrative site. In 1720, much of the structure was demolished due to decay and replaced with a baroque office building. Today, only the old brewhouse remains, which now serves as a local museum. The office building, once used as a courthouse until 1973, currently functions as the town hall. The original castle area measured about 50 by 50 meters, and while the moat is gone, the brewhouse and its annex—once a prison—still stand as historical remnants.
