Downside Abbey

Description

Downside Abbey is a historic Benedictine monastery in Somerset, founded in 1607 and moved to Downside in 1814. Its Grade I-listed Abbey Church of St Gregory the Great is a notable example of Gothic Revival architecture. The monastic community left the site in 2022 and moved to Belmont Abbey in 2025; the former abbey buildings are now largely vacant.
