St. Bonifatius Church
Description
St. Bonifatius is the main Catholic church in Wiesbaden, Germany, located at Luisenplatz. The current church was designed by architect Philipp Hoffmann in Gothic Revival style and built between 1844 and 1849. Its two 68-metre-high towers dominate the city square.
The first church was built between 1829 and 1831 but collapsed shortly after its completion due to weak foundations. Construction of the present church began in 1845, and it was consecrated in 1849. The towers were completed in 1866.
During World War II, the church suffered severe damage from an air raid in 1945. It was later restored, with further renovations in the 1960s, including a new altar and stained-glass windows.
Today, St. Bonifatius remains an important religious and architectural landmark in Wiesbaden.
