Saint-Martin d'Aime Basilica
Description
St. Martin's Basilica in Aime-la-Plagne was built in the 11th century on the foundations of a Roman basilica. The choir walls display frescoes from the late 12th and early 13th centuries showing biblical scenes like the Creation and the Massacre of Innocents. These paintings reveal how people of that time expressed their religious devotion through art. A crypt beneath the church displays original Roman artifacts from ancient times.
