Krautheim Castle

Krautheim, Germany

Krautheim castle was built in 1213 by Wolfrad I of Krautheim on the rocky spur. The first castle existed already in the 12th century. The chapel was added in 1230.

Today Krautheim is restored. The massive castle keep, with its height of 30 metres, gives a comprehensive view into the Jagst valley and the surrounding landscape.

Spontaneous visit and ascent to the castle by bike in the cold, rain and wind. When we arrived at the top, we were welcomed by an extremely pleased gentleman from the castle association, who offered us a short tour, which we (five of us) gladly accepted. The gentleman's joy and enthusiasm spread directly to us - we were spontaneously impressed! When we were then offered wine and Italian cherries, we were smitten! Thank you again!!

We were there for the castle festival and took the opportunity to visit the castle/tower. It's sporty going up to the tower and the steps are very narrow, more comparable to a ladder (backwards is the safest way down again). The castle is partly privately inhabited. What can be visited when no staff is on site is unknown. Used the car park at the foot of the castle and climbed the steep hiking trail for 15 minutes. The castle complex is not always open.

Very cool castle! Woman at the front was very friendly despite my party’s poor German-speaking ability. Detailed historical information available regarding the castle and the Krautheim family. Amazing view from the top- but be warned, steps to the top are somewhat treacherous.

Unfortunately, we couldn't go into the castle, it's not possible due to a lack of staff, but it could be looked after a little better, the facility looks a bit neglected. The view from the top is worth it!

Beautiful well-preserved facility, partially renovated. With castle museum, closed for me. Kernburg privately inhabited. Access therefore restricted. There are hardly any remains of the outer bailey, as it is now used as a retirement home. The town itself was protected by a town wall. Parts of it are connected to the burg. Parking at the Johanniter Museum or in front of the church.

Argos Theater

The ancient Argos Theater was built in 320 BC. and is located in Argos, Greece against Larissa Hill. Nearby from this site is Agora, Roman Odeon, and the Baths of Argos. The theater is one of the largest architectural developments in Greece and was renovated in ca 120 AD.

The Hellenistic theater at Argos is cut into the hillside of the Larisa, with 90 steps up a steep incline, forming a narrow rectilinear cavea. Among the largest theaters in Greece, it held about 20,000 spectators and is divided by two landings into three horizontal sections. Staircases further divide the cavea into four cunei, corresponding to the tribes of Argos A high wall was erected to prevent unauthorized access into the theatron and may have helped the acoustics, but it is said the sound quality is still very good today.

Around 120 CE, both theaters were renovated in the Roman style.
