Savelli Torlonia Castle

Description

Savelli Torlonia Castle is a medieval fortress located in Palombara Sabina, near Rome, on the highest hill of the town. First mentioned in 1064, it was originally built by the Ottaviani family and later passed to the Savelli family, who expanded and rebuilt it between the 13th and 16th centuries.

Over the centuries the castle changed owners until it was acquired by the municipality in 1971. Today it houses a library and a natural history museum. Despite many modifications, it has preserved its medieval appearance and is considered one of the largest castles in Lazio, with 132 rooms.
