Château de Larringes

Description

Larringes Castle is a former fortified house dating from the 10th century, rebuilt in the 14th century, located in the Gavot region of Haute-Savoie. Built on an ancient site with Roman remains and early medieval burials, it occupied a strategic hilltop position with wide views across the Alps.

Originally restored in the 13th century, the castle passed through the hands of the Counts of Savoy and several noble families, including the Châtillon and Allinges families. It was badly damaged by Bernese forces in 1536 and later elevated to a barony in 1564. After major alterations in 1884, it changed ownership several times and was restored in the 20th century.

The castle forms a quadrangular enclosure with a central courtyard and a square keep. It is now privately owned and not open to the public.
