Torreparedones Castle

The first documents of Torreparedones Castle date from the 14th century, but it was probably built in the 13th century. The best preserved part is the tower.

A jewel that Andalusia has, a shame that it is not well known, the car journey is a bit regular, very narrow road, but the truth is that it is worth visiting.

An essential visit, what you see is impressive, and what you sense is even more impressive. It is a very important Iberian city first and then Roman. I highly recommend the guided tour. Guadalupe, our guide, explained the tour to us in an extraordinarily didactic and entertaining way, leaving evidence of her preparation and professionalism.

Warning! The journey is adventurous! Google maps sends you off the road onto a path that is private and only accessible with a tractor. Be sure to continue driving until you see a sign pointing to the site. The last 2-3 km you drive on a new path that is very narrow, two cars just pass each other. When a bus comes towards you, one has to move off the road and then comes back onto the road with damage to the ground, if at all. The site itself is definitely worth seeing. It's rare to see so much original material from Roman times. If you want to go there in the summer, you can't help it. In December there were only a few other visitors.

We really liked the place but with a guide it would have been better. The information man only explained to us where we should go... At least there are well-preserved information signs. The views of the countryside are very pleasant!!

Visby Cathedral

Visby Cathedral (also known as St. Mary’s Church) is the only survived medieval church in Visby. It was originally built for German merchants and inaugurated in 1225. Around the year 1350 the church was enlarged and converted into a basilica. The two-storey magazine was also added then above the nave as a warehouse for merchants.

Following the Reformation, the church was transformed into a parish church for the town of Visby. All other churches were abandoned. Shortly after the Reformation, in 1572, Gotland was made into its own Diocese, and the church designated its cathedral.

There is not much left of the original interior. The font is made of local red marble in the 13th century. The pulpit was made in Lübeck in 1684. There are 400 graves under the church floor.
